World Extreme Cagefighting ceases operations and
folds on December 16, 2010 after being purchased by UFC parent company Zuffa
and ultimately merged with the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Final WEC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz is awarded a
UFC bantamweight championship belt following his WEC 53 title bout and is
thereby recognized as the inaugural UFC bantamweight champion following the
WEC-UFC merger.
